The San Manuel Band of Mission Indians is set to unveil phase one of the ongoing $550 million expansion of San Manuel Casino on July 24, the Highland, California-based casino’s 35th anniversary.
The first phase of the multimillion-dollar project includes expanded gaming space, a 24-hour restaurant, a high-end dining outlet, new retail shops, and the property’s first hotel, among other amenities.
The San Manuel tribe is looking to fill nearly 2,500 new job positions by the end of the year and is said to be well on track to accomplishing that goal. There is an ongoing recruitment initiative for cooks, cashiers, custodians/janitors, groundskeepers, and more. The tribe has also begun filling hospitality jobs.
Construction work on the project kicked off in the summer of 2018 marking the start of the largest expansion at the gambling venue since its opening more than three decades ago.
San Manuel Casino first opened doors as a bingo hall on July 24, 1986. In 1994, the venue was expanded into a 100,000-square-foot casino with slot machines and card games. San Manuel closed its bingo hall in 2017 and changed the property’s name from San Manuel Indian Bingo and Casino to San Manuel Casino.
What’s Scheduled to Open on July 24
San Manuel will next week unveil its expanded casino floor. The tribe has added two new floors of gaming space and its casino will now cover 270,000 square feet of space. As part of the expansion, 1,300 new slot machines will be added to bring the gambling venue’s total to over 6,500, more than what any other West Coast casino features.
The new gaming space will also add 40 new table games and the casino’s fifth high limit room – The Enclave. It will be smaller than the other four, but would be more exclusive. The new high limit space will feature eight table games, 35 standalone slot machines and 11 bartop spots. There will be two private rooms within The Enclave for players who want to play in seclusion.
July 24 will also see the opening of Serrano Vista Café, a 24-hour restaurant. It will be located on the former site of citrus orchards and will serve various dishes incorporating common California ingredients, including avocado and citrus.
As part of phase one of the expansion, San Manuel will further launch three luxury stores as well as two upscale restaurants.
The casino’s first onsite hotel is expected to swing its doors open later this year. The 17-story tower will feature 432 luxury rooms and suites and premium dining venues. A large event center will be attached to the hotel, but it is not expected to open until sometime in 2022. San Manuel topped off the hotel tower last November.
